Everything I Like Causes Cancer

Where we've been convinced to write a new post on Dec. 2. Stay tuned!

Last night's dinner club host approached me almost as soon as I arrived, leaned in conspiratorially, and said, "You know how sometimes you see or hear a phrase and after that you can't get it out of your head?"

"Yeah."

"Well, today I was coming home from running errands and as I drove past Hardee's I noticed that their billboard read, 'Put a little zest in your taco.'" (insert juvenile chortling here)

Let me just say that thereafter we DID NOT abuse that phrase the entire evening. Not. At. All. Way to go, Hardee's. You've finally done something more memorable than making burgers from Angus beef.

Here's a little song by Michael Franti and Spearhead that I am going to set on "repeat" until I can get the zest out of my taco phrase out of my head and the lead out of my ass (I'm so very tired but have a big, fat day of Culture Club activities lined up: brunch, an exhibit at the History Museum and a play at 2 pm.)

Happy Sunday, monkeys! Crank this one up and shake that ass, k?

As I lay in bed this morning thinking about my favorite accessories . . .

The new cowboy boots . . .

The necklace made of nails . . .

The headband made of fabric from the artist’s grandma’s dress . . .

And the beaver belt . . .

. . . I realized that I still had not made good on my promise to take funny pictures of me wearing my beaver belt to submit to the real-life Beevers who created it.

My initial plan was to go to the zoo wearing my belt and stage some dumbass picture of me in my belt with real beavers. I wore that belt to the zoo like three times this summer and never once saw a beaver.

So I lay there, wondering how I could right this wrong, when suddenly it came to me that I could WRITE this wrong and crafted this poem as a way of letting
katrocket and The Beevers know that I have not forgotten my promise:

There once was a gal from Toronto
Who liked to do things on the pronto.
She gave me a belt.
My heart, it did melt.
But now I can’t find a damn beaver.

I just shut down the virtual network (work) and am rocking out in my office chair to this:

(Sorry there's only sound on the video - it was the only one I could find of this particular soing.  The gal at the beginning is fun, though!  Pump up the peculiar.)

H will be here in about 30 minutes for dinner: pepper loin (pork), some broccoli and buttered - with REAL BUTTER! - new red potatoes.  We're gonna' drink and eat and talk and rock out some more and glue the fun stuff to my costume.

Later on we may try blowing bubbles in these subzero temps.   According to this site some of them freeze and it's freaking cool.  I will try to get pictures, but there are no guarantees given the weather.
