Everything I Like Causes Cancer

Where we've been convinced to write a new post on Dec. 2. Stay tuned!

I'm not so full of hubris that I can't admit when I made a mistake. When I published the post below I assumed that everyone had been raised by a very young mother, surrounded by her pop culture preferences like, say, The Beatles. I mistakenly assumed everyone was as familiar with their lyrics as I am. My bad.

To prove I'm not a ginormously pompous smarty-pants, I've returned to clarify that I was referencing the last verse of A Day In The Life:
I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
I'd love to turn you on
I was out with friends last Saturday night and while we were having dinner I noticed that the apartment building next to the restaurant is named "Albert Hall." It cracked me up and I hoped to make you laugh as well. Eh, they can't all be winners.

This video, set to "A Day In The Life", is quite well done and contains some great old footage. I hope you enjoy it more than you did my last post.

P.S. Special thanks to my IRL friend Bryan Bean who was as confused as the rest of you, but googled what the hell I was talking about and posted a clarifying comment. Thanks for reading and caring, Bean! Consider yourself hired as an EILCC Editor.

Huzzah!

I stole the idea for posting this video from my friend Johnny the Jeweler who posted it on Facebook but he doesn't read this blog so I figure he'll never realize I'm a big stealer.

Raise a glass, monkeys, this fucking week is over.
Let the weekend begin, stat.

Hey-O!

On my way in today I heard the news that Ed McMahon left this morning for the straightman's job in the sky. I can just see him . . . sitting next to God's desk, in a chair that makes him slightly taller than God, and yelling "Hey-O!" every time The Big Man tells a good one.

Mr. McMahon? You were an American icon. You were the world's best sidekick and one hell of a salesman. Even though I'm still pissed about the $0 check, I'll miss ya.

Do you smell that? Is it bacon?

On my way to work yesterday morning I received a speeding ticket for going 40 in a 25. I have never denied that I have a terribly heavy lead foot but, in my defense, there is a 200 yard stretch of the road I take to work that suddenly drops to 25. And I was daydreaming. Probably about you, but I digress.

The cop wasn't a total dick about it but he wasn't responding to my Midwestern Friendliness either. The more I think about it, I'd have been less mad about the whole thing if he'd just once acknowledged that he was writing me a $100 ticket exactly one week before my birthday. My 40th birthday. Humorless douchebag.

I announced my misfortune on Facebook as soon as I got to the office and it was later suggested that I'd received the ticket because I failed to show enough cleavage.

Haha! Good one!

See, the first thought I had when the cherries lit up behind me was, "Thank God I haven't done laundry in like three weeks and this top was the only thing clean." Sadly, it didn't help.

On my way home last night I re-enacted the moment by sticking my left arm out the window and taking this from Officer Humorless E. Douchebag's point of view:

(His middle name just has to be Eunich.)

And yes, I took this picture of myself while driving. I also waited to take it until I was traversing that particular stretch of Roaditaketowork Road.

That'll show him.

Uh, yeah.

I was so excited yesterday to finish cleaning up the piles of leaves I raked weeks ago so I could finally start my spring planting but within the first five minutes of scooping leaves I threw out my back and thought I might die.  Not kidding.  Stupidly, I finished the leaves and did some light planting but I shouldn't have.  I have never felt pain like this before.   I can walk, sorta, and I did take a shower before I drove myself to an emergency chiropractic visit this morning but it's so bad that he and his wife wouldn't let me drive home.  In fact, they fed me before I left to make sure I ate.

Yeah, it's that bad.

I had grand plans for today, too.  I was going to bake a ham (coffee glazed) and make all the fixings for a righteous Easter dinner like chocolate ribbon pie and party potatoes but I don't think I can and was bluntly told not to.  Boo.  Know that I have received all of your sweet Easter wishes and send them back to you, but for now I have to go sit in a hard-backed chair with arms.  I'll be back when I can move again.

This. Is. All. Your. Fault.

A week ago Monday you just HAD to go and talk about it.  And I just HAD to talk about how I shouldn't ever be picked.  And karma being what it is, this arrived the very same day.

I haven't opened it, keeping it intact for scanning, so let's just see when I have to appear . . . Oh!  How 'bout that?  April 20th.  Four twenty. Apparently karma also has a sense of humor.

First and foremost, my doctor says I am not dying so stop crying already.  Apparently a day or two of antibiotics will have me right as rain.  It does, however, explain the stabbing back pain and exhaustion I had all weekend that I attributed to cleaning house and sleeping on an air mattress.

I found out Friday that it will take $1,000 worth of repairs to get my car to pass its State inspections.  This song has been running on a loop in my head ever since.

Jackass cat.

I get one day I can work from home per week.  I am scheduled to take it on Fridays but in the event of inclement weather I can switch days.  It is snowing and sleeting here so I decided to switch days and work from home today.

A couple minutes ago my coffee kicked in and I went upstairs to take care of business.  I live alone so there is no need to close the door.  My littlest cat, Skylar, thinks that the only water in the house fit to drink comes out of the bathroom faucet and generally races ahead of me when he sees me go upstairs and sits and cries at the faucet.

This time, however, he didn't initially notice I went upstairs.  He figured it out after I was already up there and ensconced on the throne.  He raced up the stairs, jumped up onto the bathroom counter and then proceeded to slide all the way across the counter and into my lap, with full claws.

I may need to start closing the door.

Twitter bashers can suck it.  Janis Krums, of Sarasota, Florida, posted the very first picture of U.S. Airways flight 1549 on Twitter from his iPhone yesterday.  I don't know why but I think that is wicked cool.

This can't be good.

While it's pretty, I'm certain it's ominous.
And it won't turn off.
Maybe I shouldn't have been using it as a heating pad.

On my way home tonight, less than two miles from my office, a belt in the engine of my car decided to stop being a belt and morphed into tiny shreds of rubber and some other papery material that I couldn't identify.  It came as quite a surprise because, really, we'd been together for a long time.  I thought we'd bonded and gotten past these petty little games.  I guess that's not how it works with cars.

Seriously though, I didn't cry.  I know!  I'm proud, too.  You see, I've been sans a man for what, four years now?  And in that time I haven't had any major crises, meaning my mettle had yet to be tested.  I passed the test.  The universe can kiss my ass; I'm a big girl now.

Granted, it took me a minute to focus and think about what I needed to do . . . how to get my car somewhere it could be fixed  . . . how to get myself home from there . . . but I did it and arrangements have even been made for a ride to and from work.  Snap.

It was a lot harder to accomplish, though, than you might think.  One, I had to pee.  Two, it was chilly and getting dark.  Three, and most importantly, I had to call seven (7) tow companies before I found one that would answer the phone, wasn't too fucking lazy to get off the gaddam couch to come help me, and had the right equipment to tow a low-rider.  (Insert your filthy jokes here, you perverted monkeys.)

I would be remiss in my karmic duty if I didn't sing the praises of the folks who met all of the above criteria and then some, McNamara's Towing.  Everyone from the owner . . . to the gal on dispatch . . . to Dave, the lucky bastard who earned the privilege of safely carting me and my car across town . . . was professional and kind.  They went out of their way to pick me up as fast as they could.  Top notch organization.  Use them.

Oh, and don't start about the roadside assistance.  I know.  I should have it.  But you know what?  Roadside assistance is for pussies.  Real women like me can figure out what needs done and do it, all on our own and without crying.  So there, nyah.
